During a visit to Candor, Tris reveals she killed Will. She surrenders to Erudite to save her friends, discovers her brother Caleb is working for Jeanine, and escapes with Tobias and Peter. The Final Sacrifice and Legacy

In Allegiant, Tris leads an expedition to the Bureau of Genetic Welfare. She receives her mother's journal from leader David but becomes jealous of staff member Nita. When David plans to expose a memory serum on Chicago's population, Tris formulates a plan with Matthew, Nita, Caleb, and Cara to stop him. Tris replaces Caleb for a suicidal mission to expose the serum. During the mission, she repels a death serum by thinking of those who died for her but is shot by David just as she succeeds. As she dies, she forgives herself and others. Two and a half years later, Tobias spreads her ashes across Chicago while riding a zip line during a Choosing Ceremony celebration.
